Phew we did it and manged to raise £11K for Pedal Power! Thanks to everyone who took part and supported our 12 Hours for Pedal Power fundraiser!
Welcome to this week's news and events update12 Hours for Pedal Power is done! A big thank you to everyone who took part in and supported last Monday's fundraising event. The weather was kind (cooler with a few welcome clouds), the atmosphere was joyous and through the day over 90 riders took to the Maindy Velodrome track to raise money for our charity. And what a success - £10,600 has been raised so far! Thanks also to trustees Malcolm, Rhys, Sybil, Sheila and Helen, as well as Jaz our wonderful receptionist, and all of the volunteers who helped on the day - it took a lot of work to organise and deliver such a big event, but was worth it! Looking for a life-affirming adventure?If you or anyone you know are interested in taking on an extraordinary challenge to fundraise for us, you may be able to apply for funding to help you do this through Givestar's Adventure for Good programme. There's £250,000 up for grabs to cover things like travel, kit, food and entry fees, so you can focus on the challenge itself. At Pedal Power, we can honestly say that we couldn't do what we do without our dedicated team of volunteers. Cardiff Council's Development & Regeneration Team is creating a Placemaking Plan for the wards of Adamsdown and Splott — and want to hear from residents. This plan will be developed with the community to help identify: · local priorities · key issues or problems · opportunities for the future This plan will focus on improving the places where people live, work, and spend time. To do this properly, we need to understand your lived experience of the area. This questionnaire is the first stage of the process. Over the summer, they will also: · hold in‑person engagement sessions; · speak with community groups and local organisations; and · come to speak to people at local community events and clubs. Following this stage, they will begin developing a range of options. These may include: · shorter‑term changes · longer‑term projects involving different partners Age Friendly Cardiff have asked us to circulate the following to our communitiesSurvey to better understand what helps people living with long-term mental health conditions to maintain and improve their physical health, the barriers they face, and what changes would make the greatest difference to health outcomes. The survey can be accessed here: Arolwg Cenedlaethol Iechyd Corfforol a Chyflyrau Iechyd Meddwl Hirdymor – Fill in form Details of Heartburn Health, a national research programme taking place across Wales, looking for people who experience heartburn, acid reflux or indigestion. Men aged 55-79 and women aged 65-79 are encouraged to take part. 170,000 people are already taking part in the UK’s largest research programme into heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux. The NHS and Cancer Research UK are supporting this research programme. Eligible people can sign up through the link in the NHS Wales text message they may receive, or they can visit www.heartburnhealth.org to join Disability Arts Cymru Exhibition From 5th August to 26th September at g39 Gallery, Roath Effaith is an exhibition showcasing disabled perspectives on one of the most urgent issues of our time: the climate crisis.
